After being born in Denmark during World War II, my family moved to Canada in 1956. At the age of 13 I designed and built my first house with my father in Vancouver, BC. In 1960, when we moved to Chicago, I enlisted in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at age 17 and supervised the building of a wooden bridge in South Korea in 1962.
In 1969, I started
I was born at a naval hospital in Virginia, where my father was stationed. He later served at a shipyard in Philadelphia. Following his military service, he worked at The Ship Systems Engineering Station - SSES known at that time as NAVSSES. Personal experience with several friends and family members, including my Godfather, that have PTSD, drives my involvement with the Veterans Are Foundation.
