President (Past 2013-2018)
My father was a soldier during World War II and I am a dedicated Army wife. I have been married for 48 years to my husband Jim – a retired Army Sergeant. Jim spent three tours in Viet Nam, was in Korea, and also the Cuban crisis. He is now retired, 21 years, from the Army and is 100% disabled from agent orange. My brother is also a Viet Nam veteran with PTSD and is disabled.
Together, Jim and I have one son (Airborne Army), a wonderful daughter-in-law and two grandsons. I have a long history with the military and a passion for supporting the troops no matter what the circumstance. During a single 11 year stretch we had 18 moves that ranged from two Forts in Texas to several overseas locations spanning two tours of duty.
Among other things, we were known for hosting Holiday meals for the service members that had no family. We also supplied hair cut money and Christmas parties for the children and many other little things to make life better for the troops and their families. I tired to maintain a wall locker filled with diapers, formula, and food supplies. Many young wives quickly learned about the “Allen” wall locker.
My husband and I are facilitators two groups of Bobs Vets, veterans groups that meet on Monday and Wednesday morning in Bob Evans restaurants. If anyone in the group is not getting benefits, needs an appointment, or simply, general assistance, we are there to help. We have been doing this work for the last two years and it has been a very rewarding task. I am also secretary and treasurer to the Auxiliary for Lake Tarpon Village Veterans Group.
Being involved with the Veterans Are Foundation is a natural extension of our lives. My professional background includes over 30 years of medical office management and accounting. I am the sitting president of the Central Gulf Coast Medical Assistants Group, for the past seven years. Working with the VAF team creates an opportunity for me to combine my life’s experience and give back to those that have served in so many ways to keep us safe and protect the American way of life for future generations.
